Gumbo For The Soul Scholarship Awareness Program

Gumbo For The Soul Literacy Program now, Gumbo For The Soul Scholarship Awareness Program was founded in 2006 by Beverly Black Johnson of San Jose, CA-USA.

She began with adult tutoring via the Bay Area Literacy Program and Partners in Reading at San Jose's Martin Luther King Jr. Public Library and has since added  providing support to high school college-bound seniors and college students seeking to learn more about scholarship offerings.

Thanks to our generous supporters we've given away over 100 books and performed over 100 volunteer hours tutoring.

In 2008 we began touring local college's heightening awareness of the scholarship offers to Blacks that are going to waste for lack of applicants.

We continue expressing our concern over the growing drop out rate of high school youth and convey a strong message on the matter by making our message available to high school campuses nationwide.

Contact us to arrange a visit.

Our efforts are supported in part by Gumbo For The Soul Publications, ad sponsors and our generous donors.
